About the Opportunity

A growing and highly respected defense litigation firm is seeking a Medical Malpractice Defense Attorney to join its expanding team. The ideal candidate will have strong litigation experience, excellent analytical and writing skills, and a desire to take ownership of cases while working collaboratively with clients, experts, and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Defend healthcare providers, hospitals, medical groups, and other healthcare entities in medical malpractice litigation.
• Manage a caseload from inception through resolution, including trial preparation and trial support.
• Conduct legal research and draft motions, pleadings, discovery responses, and other litigation documents.
• Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, treating physicians, and expert witnesses.
• Prepare cases for mediation, arbitration, settlement conferences, and trial.
• Analyze medical records and collaborate with medical experts.
• Attend court hearings and argue motions.
• Develop litigation strategies and provide recommendations to clients and carriers.
• Maintain regular communication with insurance carriers and clients regarding case developments and exposure analysis.
• Meet annual billable hour expectations while delivering high-quality legal work.

Qualifications

Required

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active license and good standing with the state bar.
• 3+ years of medical malpractice defense, insurance defense, or complex civil litigation experience.
• Strong litigation, deposition, and motion practice experience.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Ability to independently manage cases and deadlines.
• Strong client communication and relationship management skills.

Preferred

• Direct experience defending physicians, hospitals, healthcare systems, or medical professionals.
• Trial experience or significant trial preparation experience.
• Experience working with insurance carriers and claims professionals.
• Portable business is welcomed but not required.
